DeSpain Condemns Rep. Hoyle and Other Local Elected Officials for Demonizing Police, Demands They Stop Undermining Law Enforcement

Commends Authorities for Arresting Colombian Illegal Alien Suspects Behind Year-Long Crime Spree Targeting Eugene’s Asian American Community

Eugene, OR - Today, Oregon’s 4th Congressional District candidate, retired Air Force Colonel Monique DeSpain, spoke out on recent reports of ICE detentions and accusations against local law enforcement by Congresswoman Hoyle regarding disturbing criminal activity targeting the Asian-American households in the Eugene area.

“I am deeply disturbed to learn of the year-long string of burglaries and home invasions targeting our Asian American community in Eugene, allegedly committed by criminal illegal aliens from Colombia,” said Monique DeSpain. “I commend our law enforcement team for identifying these individuals and delivering them to our criminal justice system. Credible evidence suggests these suspects, who targeted our community members, are repeat offenders who are also illegally present in our country. With the increased immigration enforcement activity in our region, everyone must comply with federal law, and our local police must be respected while they perform their difficult duties to hold criminals fully accountable and keep our communities safe.”

“Our immigration system has been broken for decades and needs real reform,” DeSpain added. “We need a system that is efficient and compassionate — one that provides a clear, legal path for law-abiding immigrants, while ensuring violent offenders who prey on our communities are swiftly removed. As a bold, common-sense leader, I will work to make that a reality.”

“Shame on Congresswoman Hoyle and her gaggle of local elected pawns who jump to attack our hardworking, underfunded law enforcement personnel, and while attempting to shelter criminal illegal aliens. This is not new behavior on the part of these public officials. Hoyle and her cohorts have been undermining our criminal justice system and attacking law enforcement for years by underfunding law enforcement, weakening consequences for criminals, and codifying catch-and-release and cashless bail policies. Enough is enough. I stand with our brothers and sisters in blue – and so should each of us.”

According to the Biden Administration, as of June 21, 2024, nearly 650,000 criminal aliens with criminal histories were released into the United States to roam in communities throughout the nation. The crimes reported included homicide, sexual assault, burglary, weapon offenses, kidnapping, and more. On October 27, 2025, ICE reported that it had conducted over 527,000 deportations so far this year.
